HUNTING AREAS
Our hunting territories encompass Aswa-Lolim, Karamoja North and South, Kafu River Basin, and Lake Mburo, as highlighted by the red stars on the accompanying map. The map also illustrates the driving distances between these selected areas. Here are the travel details:
Driving Times:
- Mayanja to Aswa-Lolim: Approximately 5 hours.
- Kampala to Mayanja: Around 4 hours.
- Kampala to Lake Mburo: Roughly 4 hours.
- Karamoja South to Kampala: About 8 hours.
Charter Flights:
- Direct charters are available from Kampala to Kidepo.
- Safaris can commence in Mayanja, Aswa-Lolim, or Karamoja, contingent upon camp availability.
- For early arrivals, charters can also depart directly from Entebbe International Airport.

Once a thriving wildlife sanctuary, the Aswa-Lolim Wildlife Reserve was degazetted in the 1970s under Idi Amin’s regime. Today, this area spans the sub-counties of Purongo, Alero, Anaka, and Koch-Goma. Despite the influx of commercial farming into these prime hunting grounds, we continue to pursue game such as Nile buffalo, Uganda kob, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, and warthog.
Nestled on the eastern banks of the Nile, Aswa-Lolim covers 45,000 hectares, sharing a 110 km border with Murchison Falls National Park to the south and approximately 78 km along the Nile to the west. The landscape is characterized by gently rolling grassy hills adorned with palm trees, interspersed with small valleys, creeks, and light forests. Closer to the river, dense forests and expansive papyrus swamps dominate the scenery.
Our hunting expeditions in Aswa-Lolim are conducted from January through the end of April/May, while sitatunga hunting is available year-round.
Karamoja: The Ultimate Frontier for Buffalo Hunters
Expansive Hunting Grounds: Our Karamoja concessions span over 450,000 hectares, stretching from the renowned Kidepo Valley National Park to central Karamoja. This vast territory encompasses six districts: Karenga, Kitgum, Agago, Kaabong, Kotido, and Abim. The region is celebrated for its substantial buffalo populations, offering hunters unparalleled opportunities to pursue these formidable animals.
Diverse Game Species: Beyond buffalo, Karamoja teems with a rich variety of game, including Jackson’s hartebeest, Sudan oribi, eastern Bohor reedbuck, Chandler’s Mountain reedbuck, Gunther’s dik-dik, East African Defassa waterbuck, warthog, and the distinctive Sudan maneless zebra. Notably, enhanced anti-poaching efforts have led to more frequent sightings of lesser and greater kudu, enriching the hunting experience.
Strategic Camp Locations: Currently, we operate a hunting camp within the Karenga Community Wildlife Area, strategically positioned to access prime hunting zones. In 2024, we plan to expand our operations by establishing a second hilltop camp, further broadening our reach to additional prime hunting grounds. A third camp is slated for the Kalapata Community Wildlife Area, with a fourth envisioned in the Lipan Controlled Hunting Area. The Lipan area is particularly notable for its prime buffalo habitats, bordered by Kidepo Valley National Park and the Kidepo Game Reserve in South Sudan.
Rich Hunting Legacy: Karamoja’s hunting heritage is legendary, having been traversed by famed hunters like W.D.M. “Karamojo” Bell, who earned his nickname exploring this very wilderness. Today, the region continues to offer authentic and exhilarating hunting experiences reminiscent of Africa’s golden age of safari.
Optimal Hunting Seasons: The prime time for buffalo hunting in Karamoja is from December through April, when conditions are most favorable. During these months, hunters can expect optimal visibility and game movement, enhancing the chances of a successful hunt.
